What is Depth Psychology?

Depth Psychology is a therapy style that stems from the idea that people are more than just their bodies, thoughts and actions. From the Depth Psychology perspective, the mind, body and spirit are all connected and work together to support your health both inside and out. I work from the understanding that we have both conscious and unconscious parts to ourselves.

Our conscious self is logical, linear and looks for concrete definitions. Our conscious self is concerned with what we think we should be doing in the world and how we think we should best appear to others. In contrast, our unconscious self is more instinctive, creative, and soulful. Our unconscious self includes a spiritual dimension that links our personal development to our soul’s purpose and is not concerned with the “should” of the outside world.

In Depth Psychology, we explore what the unconscious is trying to tell us in the form of images, thoughts, emotions, sensations in the body, and dreams. We use this new insight to help guide us towards what our soul knows will help us move beyond any challenges we may be facing so we can live a more productive and balanced life.

Our lives are a process of balancing our conscious lives with our unconscious yet unfolding personal truth. Bringing our deeply instinctive and creative needs into our conscious lives offers us the opportunity to come into a greater awareness of our soul’s purpose and offers us insights into how we can live according to our personal integrity and values.

As a Depth Therapist I will work in collaboration with you to help look at what’s working and not working in your life –like patterns of behavior, relationship challenges, career choices, and emotional struggles. Together we will work towards developing the life you desire so that you can live more fully and authentically by achieving a healthy balance between your true inner values and outer goals.
